Is it possible that one of hip-hop's coolest emcees has just gotten cooler? Yes it is - Calvin Broadus Aka Snoop Dogg is currently recording a reggae album, according to the entertainment.iafrica.com website.

The website reports that Snoop is working with high-profile producer Diplo, who has worked with big names like Beyoncé, MIA and Usher.

“Snoop Dogg is an icon, man; he’s bigger than the music. What we’re doing is a reggae record,” Diplo told MTV recently.

“It’s all reggae and he’s singing and he’s doing an awesome job. And I never knew it, but he had his heart in every song.”

Diplo added that he and Snoop have started work on 18 tracks but took a break from recording. They expect to resume some time this month, he said.

“We’re going to get back into the production of it next month, and I’m really proud of that record. It’s the first record I’ve ever executive produced and his crew is amazing,” said Diplo.

One of the giants of gangsta rap, Snoop Dogg is best known for hard-hitting projects like The Chronic and Murder She Wrote, both produced by Dr Dre.

He has performed twice in Jamaica, at Sashi in 2000 and at Reggae Sumfest the following year.

Meanwhile, closer to home, Aidonia talks about splitting up with Corey Todd, Vybz Kartel, State Of Dancehall Music, Engagement & More.

Also in Jamaica it is confirmed that police have returned Vybz Kartel's Benz and the deejays assets were returned to his family.

A source close to the high-profile case against embattled dancehall entertainer Vybz Kartel has revealed that the artiste's 2010 S-Class Mercedes-Benz among other assets, have been released to his family.

THE STAR understands that the assets were released to the artiste's family by the police last month.

In 2010, the deejay had made the talk of the town with his luxury motor vehicle.

In an interview with THE STAR that same year, Kartel said, "no deejay eva own a S-Class Benz. This Benz is the flagship of the Benz's line, meaning dis a di top, top Benz."

He further said, "It do everything except fly, the body can raise, it just have the whole driving experience, is like yuh a drive pon air."

Right here at home though, it's that time of year when soca artists and producers alike are in the studio recording and putting together their Crop Over 2012 material.  One producer however has gotten the jump on the others.  Adam "King Bubba" Elias - through his studio, Platta Recording Studio, has released the first bashment riddim for the upcoming festival.  The "BLUE DIESEL RIDDIM" features Crimeson,  Answar, Big Red, Gorg, L'il Rick, Skinny Fabulous & Bunji Garlin and is in heavy rotation on Slam 101 FM. (WWW.SLAM101FM.COM).

In closing, let me make a correction to yesterday's blog.  I mentioned that the Sexx Tape Riddim released by Truckback Records will not be able to play on radio because of it's altogether lewd lyrics, however Truckback has released the radio cuts to the the songs on the riddim and you can now hear the riddim in rotation on Slam 101.1 FM.

Until 2morrow...
